Put a Recipe (and why it matters) into FamilySearch
GO BACK to the main Expedition Night page.
Remember: Any time you need help or resources, go to the FamilySearch center.
As you go about your adventures, remember to upload a few photos to the slideshow - we'll return to the church at 7:30 for ice cream sandwiches and to watch that slideshow!
Here are some questions to get good stories about the recipes.
Choose a recipe
The best recipes to record are involved with family traditions, or that remind you of certain people or events.
For example, my family makes a particular danish every Christmas (many of my ancestors are from Sweden).
Prepare to write
Think about what your descendants would need to 1) understand why the recipe matters and 2) recreate the recipe.
I recommend writing this information down, while you discuss it. Have the kids tell you what they remember about the event or recipe, or have your friends ask for more details about it. You'll find that they'll highlight things you might not have thought to include.
If you don't know much about the background of the recipe, note questions that you can ask other members of your family (for example, I have no idea if the Christmas danish recipe mentioned above is traditional Swedish or if it's something my great-grandmother found in a cookbook. It would be nice to know which - but either way, it's still the recipe we've used for generations).Â
If you have one, find a photo of the dish
You can add this later, so don't worry if you don't have one. It's a nice to have.
A photo of the family at the celebration would work well, too.
Write the recipe - and the story about it
This would be best done with the group - for example, with the kids asking questions about it (you may have kids draw pictures of their experiences to jog their memories).
The key thing here is that, in FamilySearch, you want to upload a "story." A story can include text and images.
How to write the story in FamilySearch (note that this is when you upload the image as well).
Be sure to include the recipe and the story about it.
Tag the story to other people involved
"Tagging" the story means to tie it to the FamilySearch profiles for the people it mentions. Doing this makes it easy to find from the profile pages of people mentioned in the story.
