Everything you need to know to participate in our ward's excellent choir!
Practices:
Practices are Sundays at 2:30 in the Primary Room.
Leading up to Christmas, here is our practice schedule:
December 7, 2:30 - the primary room may be taken. If that's the case, try the chapel and the Relief Society room (in that order)
NO practice on December 14 - that's the Stake Christmas Musical Devotional performance (at 4:00 p.m.)
We'll do a quick run-through at 8:30 on December 21
See this page for one way to practice your part at home!
Upcoming Performances:
December 14, 4 pm - "What Shall We Give?" (Stake Christmas Musical Devotional)
December 21 - "What Shall We Give?" and "O Little Town of Bethlehem" (Christmas worship service)
Next Pop Up Choir:
What is a pop up choir? Click here for info.
Many members would like to participate in the choir, but for various reasons they are unable to do so.
A pop up choir is when any member of the ward who wishes to participate comes and sings with the choir. They sing a hymn out of the hymnbook (it's wise to bring your hymnbook up with you), just as it is written. We perform the intermediate hymn.
Watch the choir director for dynamics (loud and soft) and rhythms. Most importantly, though, come up and participate!
What shall we give is a traditional Christmas carol from the Catalan region of Spain. Hear the version of hymn from the Tabernacle Choir below, or scroll clear down for the lyrics to the version we are singing.
I also have the computer-generated "recording" of our version of the song. That's right below here.
Our version (if the player doesn't appear, click on the black box):
What shall we give to the Babe in the manger?
What shall we offer the Child in the stall?
Incense and spices and gold we’ve got plenty;
Are these the gifts for the King of us all?
What shall we give to the Boy in the temple?
What shall we offer the Man by the sea?
Songs we will sing full of joy at His mercy
Praising His gift that from sin sets us free.
What shall we give to the Lamb who has loved us?
What shall we offer to Heaven’s own King?
Lives filled with service and hearts turned to heaven;
These are the gifts that we joyfully bring.
